The beginning of the Pagan new year is right around the corner and during this harvest time I’ve been contemplating some ideas about how I want this following year to progress. As a relatively n00b in the Pagan scene I’ve spent the last year and a half slowly learning bits and pieces about Paganism, Wicca, and a variety of other religious aspects that I felt I should explore. I consider myself mostly solitary, though I do have a handful of Pagan/Wiccan friends who have helped me on this journey.
However, since I am a solitary pagan/witch and I live in the Bible Belt of the USA it’s a bit difficult finding a coven or anyone who could be more of a mentor and help me progress who isn’t already a friend. Because of this I’ve heavily relied on books and the internet for information. The number of materials that exist is tremendous though and it has taken me quite a bit of time to weed through the books that are popular and the books with the best information. So for the next year (at least), I intend on reading up on Paganism/Wicca and reviewing those books. Along the way I’m sure I’ll provide some of the notes I’ve taken as well that hopefully will help others on their own journeys.
And if you have any reading suggestions I will happily take them!
Pagan Book Reviews and More! 
This is a wonderful idea. I was wanting to renew my studies and the beginning of the new year seems like the perfect opportunity. I am unsure of what you have read already as it seems like you have been studying the Craft for a while now, but if you haven’t already read it, I recommend Wicca by Scott Cunningham. At least where I live (Michigan), it’s relatively easy to find on bookshelves and I consider it to be a great resource. If you are interested in mentors and progressing, you might be interested in the Magical Circle School – it’s an online school with courses on different subjects and the option to complete degrees. Wicca by Scott Cunningham was actually one of the first books I read when I realized that it might be something that interested me. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like it was the best book to start out with and really believe I failed to understand a good portion of it. Therefore, it’s one of the books I intend on reading/re-reading during the next year so that I can properly digest the information within.
I do have a goodreads.com account, which I may share in the future. Many books are easy to find online or even at stores such as Half Price Books, but the libraries tend not to have much of a selection in my area and there are very few Pagan-related shops within an hour drive. I don’t consider myself well-read in this area, though I have found copious amounts of information on the internet. That is one of the reasons why I feel this coming year should be more focused on my education in the area.
I really appreciate you taking the time to contact me and make suggestions. I hear good things about Michigan (and quite a few other states), that seem to be much more welcoming in regards to religions that aren’t Christian-based. The Pagan/Wiccan population in my area (greater Cincinnati area) is growing, though many are tucked away in the broom closet or at least aren’t very visible to the general populous.
